“Costly and Best Offering”

“Mary therefore took a pound of expensive ointment made from pure nard, and anointed the feet of Jesus and wiped his feet with her hair. The house was filled with the fragrance of the perfume.”  John 12:3 ESV

Devotion
Today, as we begin our Thursday, we turn our hearts to the powerful moment when Mary anointed the feet of Jesus. With a posture of true worship, she poured out her most precious possession, surrendering all she had and all she was for the One she loved most. Her act was more than a simple gesture, it was a declaration that Jesus was worthy of every treasure, every ambition, every desire. God invites us to this same depth of surrender, to pour ourselves out in worship, praise, love and service, guided by the Holy Spirit and inspired by Jesus’ presence.

Reflection
Pause for a moment. Imagine the house filled with the fragrance of Mary’s offering, the air saturated with worship, humility, and adoration. What are you holding most dear today? Where is God prompting you to deeper surrender? Mary’s example challenges us to bring not only our best, but our whole selves, trusting that the fragrance of our devotion will honor God and bless others. Streaming through today’s moments, let your actions and words reflect this full-hearted worship.

Pray
Almighty God, Thank You for showing us the beauty of total surrender through Mary’s devotion. Give us a heart that treasures You above all else, a heart willing to pour out everything in love and worship. Fill our lives with the fragrance of Your presence, so others may be drawn to You through our actions and words. Lead us, Holy Spirit, deeper into Jesus each day. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
