Scripture: The Birth of Jesus Luke 2:1-20  NRSV Read by Pastor Monica J
So Joseph also went up from the town of Nazareth in Galilee to Judea, to Bethlehem the town of David, because he belonged to the house and line of David.  He went there to register with Mary, who was pledged to be married to him and was expecting a child.  While they were there, the time came for the baby to be born, and she gave birth to her firstborn, a son. She wrapped him in cloths and placed him in a manger, because there was no guest room available for them. Luke 2:4-7 NRSV

Welcome to today’s Christmas Eve devotion! As we reflect on this sacred day, my heart is drawn to the timeless hymn, “Silent Night.” This beautiful carol was first sung on Christmas Eve in 1818 at the St. Nicholas Church in Oberndorf, Austria. In a town ravaged by years of war and hardship, the simple yet profound melody brought peace and hope to weary souls.

Today’s scripture reading is Luke 2:1-20 (NRSV), the story of Jesus’ humble birth in Bethlehem, announced with joy by angels to shepherds in the fields. This passage reminds us of the great gift of God’s love, wrapped in the innocence of a newborn child, and the message of peace on earth to all people.

As you prepare your heart for this holy night, may the words of “Silent Night” and the story of Christ’s birth inspire you with peace, hope, and the promise of God’s enduring love. Let us rejoice together in the miracle of Christmas and the blessings it brings to each of us.

The Journey Continues…
Blessings and Peace,

Pastor Monica J
