Loved First, Loving Forward
Scripture
“In this the love of God was made manifest among us, that God sent his only Son into the world, so that we might live through him. In this is love, not that we have loved God but that he loved us and sent his Son to be the propitiation for our sins. Beloved, if God so loved us, we also ought to love one another.” 1 John 4:9–11 ESV.
Devotion
Today I continue reflecting on Advent LOVE and the truth that God demonstrated immense LOVE by sending Jesus into the world so that we might have eternal life. Jesus became the atoning sacrifice for our sins—clear proof that God loved us first. Because of that great, sacrificial LOVE, we are compelled and moved to love others sacrificially.
Reflection
God’s LOVE is not earned or initiated by us, it is revealed, given, and poured out through Jesus. Through Christ and the guidance of the Holy Spirit, we are called to live and act as God’s divine reflection on earth as it is in heaven. God’s LOVE lives in us when we choose to love others in the same self-giving way God loves us. Simply put, God’s LOVE calls us to LOVE others When we truly receive that love, it changes how we see people, especially those we might overlook or avoid. Advent reminds us that love is not just something we feel; it is something we live.

Loving God, thank You for loving me first and for demonstrating Your great LOVE through Jesus. Fill my heart with Your Holy Spirit so that Your love may live in me and flow through me.
