“But you are a chosen race, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a people for his own possession, that you may proclaim the excellencies of him who called you out of darkness into his marvelous light.” 1 Peter 2:9 ESV
Devotion – Living as God’s Chosen
Today, I reflect on what it means to be and live as one of God’s “Chosen.” “Chosen” is not just a title, it is my spiritual identity and divine purpose as a follower of Jesus Christ. Through Him, I am part of a chosen race, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, and God’s special possession. To live as one of the “Chosen” means walking in the light of God’s truth and leaving behind the shadows of spiritual darkness. It is embracing the call to declare God’s goodness and to live as evidence of His transforming power. As God’s treasured and peculiar people, we belong fully to God, redeemed by grace, rescued from our worst selves, and renewed in God’s image. Our purpose, then, is to proclaim the excellencies of God: sharing the Gospel, reflecting God’s character, and revealing His light in the world through Jesus Christ, guided daily by the Holy Spirit. Being “Chosen” is not about privilege, it is about purpose. It is not about superiority, it is about service. It is not about exclusion, it is about illumination.
Reflection
God chose us not because we were perfect, but because God is faithful. We are called out of darkness into marvelous light so that our lives might shine with hope, mercy, and truth in a world that desperately needs it. Am I living in a way that reflects my identity as one of God’s Chosen? Where might I still be lingering in shadows instead of walking boldly in His light? How is my life proclaiming the excellencies of the One who called me?

💖Declare aloud today: “I am Chosen by God for purpose.”
💖Walk intentionally in the light—choose truth over compromise.
💖Share one word of encouragement or testimony about God’s goodness.
💖Invite the Holy Spirit to guide your thoughts, words, and actions.
Pray
Gracious and Sovereign God, thank You for choosing me and calling me into Your marvelous light. Help me to live fully in my identity as Your chosen child—set apart, redeemed, and renewed through Jesus Christ. Teach me to walk in truth, reflect Your character, and proclaim Your goodness wherever I go. Holy Spirit, guide me daily so that my life will shine as evidence of Your transforming power. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
