Word For Today – Holy
Scripture:
“As obedient children, do not be conformed to the passions of your former ignorance, but as He who called you is holy, you also be holy in all your conduct, since it is written, ‘You shall be holy, for I am holy.’” — 1 Peter 1:14–16 (ESV)
Devotion: Called to Live Set Apart
Today I reflect on the meaning of the word “Holy.” To be “Holy” is to live in faithful obedience to God, to cling to God daily and, with God’s help, resist the things that separate us from God’s presence. Through our relationship with Christ, we gain the power to live a “Holy” life, abandoning selfish ways and aligning our hearts, minds, and actions with God’s nature. The call to be “Holy,” guided by the Holy Spirit, is an invitation to transformation. It means living distinctly, set apart from worldly influences, so that our lives reflect the character of God in every thought, word, and deed. To live “Holy” is not about perfection, but about devotion, choosing God’s will over our own and mirroring God’s love and righteousness in all we do, in Jesus’ name.
Reflection
To be “Holy” is to surrender daily to God. It is a williness to spend time in God’s presence. It is intentional time in prayer, obedience in small decisions, and courage to walk differently when the world pressures us to conform. When we respond to God’s call, our lives become testimonies of grace, evidence that we belong to a Holy God who is shaping us to look more like Christ. Where in my life is God inviting me to live more distinctly? What habits, thoughts, or influences must I release to fully embrace a holy walk with Christ?
Call to Action
💖Spend time in prayer, asking the Holy Spirit to reveal areas needing alignment.
💖Choose one practical way today to reflect God’s character in your words or actions.
💖Resist one habit or influence that pulls you away from God’s presence.
💖Declare aloud: “I am called to be holy because God is holy.”
Pray
Holy and Righteous God, thank You for calling me into a life set apart for You. Through Jesus Christ, empower me to walk in faithful obedience. Shape my thoughts, purify my motives, and guide my actions so that they reflect Your character. Holy Spirit, strengthen me to resist what separates me from You and draw me closer each day. May my life mirror Your love and righteousness in all I do. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
