Word For Today – Devotion
Scripture:
“No servant can serve two masters, for either he will hate the one and love the other, or he will be devoted to the one and despise the other. You cannot serve God and money.” Luke 16:13 ESV
Devotion – Undivided Hearts
Today, I reflect on the word “Devotion.” True “Devotion” for me means undivided loyalty. Our hearts cannot be given fully to both God and money or material gain. The heart inevitably follows the master it loves most. “Devotion” calls us to choose between pursuing God’s will and chasing material gain. It invites us to use our resources and influence for God’s purposes, in Jesus’ name, rather than for selfish ends. Through “Devotion” we come to understand stewardship or management versus ownership. What we have on earth is not truly ours but entrusted to us by God to advance God’s Kingdom. Every blessing, every opportunity, every resource is a sacred trust.
Reflection:
As we meditate on the spiritual meaning of “Devotion,” may we invite the Holy Spirit to help us prioritize God’s will above possessions, wealth, or anything that draws us away from God’s ways. True “Devotion” aligns our hearts with heaven and keeps our focus on eternal purpose rather than temporary gain.Where is my heart most invested today?
Do my choices reflect devotion to God’s will, or attachment to temporary security?
How am I managing what God has entrusted to me for Kingdom impact?
Call to Action:
🙏🏾Examine one area of your life where divided loyalty may exist.
🙏🏾Pray and surrender attachment to material gain that competes with God’s will.
🙏🏾Practice stewardship by using time, talent, or treasure for God’s purposes.
🙏🏾Invite the Holy Spirit to realign your priorities with eternal values.
Pray
Gracious and Faithful God, Today I choose “Devotion.” I surrender my divided loyalties and ask You to purify my heart. Teach me to be a faithful steward of all You have entrusted to me. Help me to love You above possessions, wealth, or status. Align my desires with Your will and guide me by Your Holy Spirit so that my life reflects undivided loyalty to You. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
