Word For Today – Boldness
Scripture:
“And when they had prayed, the place in which they were gathered together was shaken, and they were all filled with the Holy Spirit and continued to speak the word of God with boldness.” Acts 4:31 ESV
Devotion – Empowered to Live and Speak with Boldness
Today, I reflect on the meaning of “Boldness.” My trust in God gives me the courage to step into each day with a confidence grounded in my faith in Jesus Christ. Spiritual “Boldness” is nurtured through my continual seeking and anticipation of a fresh filling of the Holy Spirit, the divine power that enables me to proclaim the gospel through both my words and the way I live. In Acts 4:31, the believers did not pray for safety or escape from difficulty. They prayed for courage. And when they had prayed, the place was shaken, and they were all filled with the Holy Spirit. Their circumstances did not immediately change, but their capacity to stand firm did. They continued to speak the word of God with “Boldness.” This kind of “Boldness” is not self-made; it is a gift from God, a divine empowerment that reminds us that God is ever-present to help us overcome whatever we may face in Jesus’ name. It is not loudness or pride. It is steady faith. It is quiet courage. It is Spirit-filled obedience. As we continue this Lenten journey, may we ask not for easier paths, but for stronger faith. May we be filled again and again with the Holy Spirit so that our lives proclaim Christ with clarity, compassion, and conviction.
Reflection
We are called to walk in “Boldness” as the natural outflow of a deep, prayerful relationship with God, one that produces confidence and openness even in the face of challenge or threat. When we unite in prayer, focusing on God rather than challenges, we receive the spiritual strength necessary to carry out God’s mission and service.
Where in my life is God calling me to be more spiritually bold? Am I praying for comfort, or am I praying for courage? How can I depend more fully on the Holy Spirit rather than my own strength?
Call to Action
💖Spend intentional time in prayer today asking the Holy Spirit to fill you afresh.
💖Speak one word of encouragement or truth to someone who needs hope.
💖Take one faith step today you have been hesitating to take with “Boldness.”
💖Focus on God’s power rather than the size of your challenge.
Pray
Gracious and Almighty God, Thank You for the gift of “Boldness.” Fill me anew with the Holy Spirit so that I may live and speak with courage rooted in Jesus Christ. Shake anything in me that is fearful, doubtful, or hesitant. Replace it with confidence grounded in Your presence. Help me to proclaim the gospel not only with my words but through my daily life. When challenges arise, remind me that You are ever-present and that Your power is greater than any obstacle before me. Empower me to walk boldly in Your will and serve faithfully in Your mission. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
