Word For Today – Kindness
Scripture
“But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control; against such things there is no law.” Galatians 5:22–23 ESV
Devotion – Cultivated by the Spirit: Living in Kindness
Today, I reflect upon “Kindness” as revealed in the fruit of the Spirit in Galatians 5:22–23. I thank God for God’s unfailing “Kindness” that reaches me in moments when I need compassion and grace the most. God’s “Kindness” meets me in weakness, restores me when I fall short, and reminds me that I am deeply loved. The presence of the Holy Spirit makes this fruit come alive in my life as I spend time with God, shaping my heart to reflect God’s nature. Showing “Kindness” goes beyond surface-level niceness; it is a Spirit-led posture that expresses itself through intentional, helpful, and loving actions. It is not passive. It is purposeful. True “Kindness” is not born of human effort but cultivated by the work of the Holy Spirit within us. As we abide in Christ, the Spirit softens hardened places in our hearts. “Kindness” counters anger, bitterness, and pride. It invites us to prioritize the needs of others over our own comfort. It moves us to speak gently, forgive freely, and act compassionately.
Reflection
During this Lenten season, may we embody “Kindness” as a virtue guided by the Holy Spirit, through gentle words, compassionate acts, and a heart that seeks to mirror the love of Christ. As we fast and pray, let us also practice intentional kindness, allowing the Spirit to shape us into reflections of God’s grace in the world. Where is God inviting me to demonstrate Spirit-led “Kindness” today? Is there someone who needs my gentle words, patient presence, or compassionate action?
Call to Action

Pray
Gracious and Loving God, thank You for Your unfailing Kindness toward me. Thank You for meeting me with compassion and grace when I need it most. Holy Spirit, cultivate within me the fruit of Kindness. Remove anger, bitterness, and pride from my heart, and replace them with gentleness and love. Help me to reflect Christ in my words, my actions, and my attitudes. During this Lenten season, shape me to be an instrument of Your Kindness in the world. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
