Choosing Gladness On Purpose
Scripture
“This is the day that the Lord has made; let us rejoice and be glad in it.”
Psalm 118:24 ESV
Devotion
Happy Wednesday, Blessings and Gratitude! On this eve of Thanksgiving, today is not just another date on the calendar; it is a day the Lord has crafted with purpose, mercy, and grace. Today is a day to rejoice and give God thanks for grace, redemption, and goodness, even in difficult seasons that feel heavy, tiring, or discouraging. Choosing gladness is not simply an emotion; it is an act of faith and obedience that lifts the heart above what is seen and anchors it in who God is.To “be glad” is an intentional decision to focus on the goodness of God when life offers reasons to complain, withdraw, or lose heart. God takes burdens, strengthens the weary, and becomes a sure refuge and hope through Jesus Christ, offering fresh strength for today and courage for tomorrow.
Reflection
Before Thanksgiving arrives, allow the Holy Spirit to search the heart and reveal where weariness, frustration, or discouragement may have dimmed gratitude. Ask: “Lord, where have I allowed my feelings to lead, instead of your truth?” Bring that place honestly before God and invite Jesus to carry what has become too heavy. Then, by faith, agree with the Word: this very day, with all its challenges and unknowns, is still the day the Lord has made. Gladness, in this light, becomes a quiet but powerful declaration that God is good, God is near, and God is worthy of praise right now, not just when everything feels

Pray
Lord, this is the day that You have made, and by faith, I choose to rejoice and be glad in it. Thank You for grace that covers my past, redemption that secures my future, and goodness that meets me in this present moment, even when my heart feels tired or heavy. Jesus, I bring You my burdens, frustrations, and quiet disappointments, and I lay them at Your feet; be my strength, my refuge, and my hope today. Holy Spirit, help me to lean into Your presence, to see reasons to be grateful, and to stand in gladness as an act of trust and obedience. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
