Discernment
“Distinguishing God’s Truth”
“Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding…” – Proverbs 3:5-6
Discernment is the spiritual ability to distinguish truth from falsehood, good from evil, and God’s voice from the noise of the world. It’s more than just a good habit—it’s a gift that matures our faith and guides our decisions.
4 Key Practices to Grow in Discernment
1. Listening to God
Spend time in prayer, Scripture, and quiet moments to hear His voice clearly.
Create time to listen to God daily. Stop, Breath, Look, Listen…
2. Considering Multiple Voices
God often speaks through others, such as wise mentors, trusted friends, and spiritual leaders. Surround yourself with wise voices in your life.
3. Identifying God’s Will
Align your heart with God’s purpose, even when it’s uncomfortable or unclear. Start each day with inviting God into your day. Seeking God’s guidance when making decisions with a simple ask and trust God to answer.
4. Distinguishing Truth from Falsehood
In a world of confusion, let Scripture be your compass. This may be one of the more difficult aspect of discernment. You must spend time in the word in order to test alignment with God’s truth. If something aligns with God’s truth go for it! Otherwise it is false and not of God.
