Scripture:
“And Mary said, ‘My soul magnifies the Lord, and my spirit rejoices in God my Savior, for he has looked on the humble estate of his servant… for he who is mighty has done great things for me, and holy is his name.’”  Luke 1:46–49 ESV

Devotion:
Today, I approach God with humility, acknowledging my deep need for Christ rather than boasting in my own strength or accomplishments. In this Advent season, I rejoice with the JOY of the Lord as I reflect on Mary, the mother of Jesus, and her joyful response to God’s power and faithfulness. Her song, the Magnificat, proclaims a God who keeps promises, uplifts the humble, and brings down the proud. The incarnation of Jesus turns the world’s power structures upside down, revealing a divine love that exalts the lowly,  fills the hungry, and transforms everything to reflect God’s holy image.

Reflection:
Praise opens the door to deeper JOY. Today, let us reclaim Mary’s prophetic song as our own, celebrating the humble grace that reorders our lives and renews the world. True joy rises not from self-sufficiency but from surrender, not from pride but from praise.  When our souls echo Mary’s words, “My soul magnifies the Lord,” we, too, participate in this holy reversal, where humility becomes the birthplace of JOY.

Pray
Lord God, teach us the humility of Mary and fill our hearts with the JOY of Your salvation. Let our souls magnify You today and always. May Your Spirit guide us to see Your greatness in our weakness, Your strength in our surrender, and Your blessings in our obedience. In Jesus’ name we pray, Amen.
