Word For Today – Diligent

Scripture
“The appetite of the lazy craves, and gets nothing, while the appetite of the diligent is richly supplied.”  Proverbs 13:4 NRSV

Devotion – Diligent in the Presence of God
Today, I reflect on what it means to be “Diligent.” To be “Diligent” I recognize that I must be consistent, earnest, and intentional in cultivating my relationship with God. It is an important part of caring for my whole self, body, mind, and spirit.  As I seek, in Jesus’ name and guided by the Holy Spirit, to be a “Diligent” follower of Christ, I commit myself to growing in virtue and fulfilling my spiritual responsibilities through prayer, worship, and study of God’s Word. Through “Diligent” effort, we become people sent by God to serve others and invite them to know God through Jesus Christ.  We must be “Diligent” and not allow distractions, obstacles, or the noise of life to pull us away from God’s presence. To be “Diligent” requires active participation, showing up daily to seek God’s will. With God’s help, our consistent effort bears good fruit: peace in uncertainty, comfort in trials, confidence in purpose, and joy in service.

Reflection
During this Lenten season of prayer, reflection, repentance, and fasting, let us be “Diligent” under God’s plan that leads to hope, satisfaction, and spiritual fulfillment.  Where is God calling me to be “Diligent” consistent and intentional in my walk with God?

Gracious and loving God,  Thank You for calling me to a life of diligence and devotion. Help me to remain consistent, intentional, and faithful in seeking You each day. Strengthen me through Your Holy Spirit so that I do not grow weary or distracted, but remain focused on Your will. Lord, guide my thoughts, actions, and desires so that they align with Your purpose. Produce in me the fruit of diligence—peace, perseverance, and joy in serving You and others. During this Lenten season, draw me closer to You and renew my commitment to walk faithfully in Your ways.  In Jesus’ name, Amen.
