Word For Today – Measure
Scripture
“Give, and it will be given to you. Good measure, pressed down, shaken together, running over, will be put into your lap. For with the measure you use it will be measured back to you.” Luke 6:38 ESV
Devotion – Measured by Generosity
Today I reflect on the spiritual meaning of “Measure,” particularly as it relates to generosity and mercy. God calls me to live, give, and “Measure” my life with an open hand, practicing both generosity and mercy in Jesus’ name. Through the guidance of the Holy Spirit, I seek to discern God-breathed responses and trust God’s leading in every opportunity to give and serve. Our attitude toward others often becomes the “Measure” or benchmark for how God, and even people, respond to us. The principle of reciprocity reminds us that the measure of mercy, love, and grace we extend will return to us in kind according to God’s will and ways, not human “Measure.” Instead of judgment or condemnation, may we choose to pour out an abundant “Measure” of goodness each day.
Reflection
During this Lenten season, let us give from an overflowing “Measure,” extending kindness and compassion that make a lasting difference in the world. We can rest in the promise that God provides exactly what we need, and abundantly more, in Jesus’ name. What “Measure” am I using today when I respond to others, with mercy, generosity, and grace, or with judgment and restraint? As followers of Christ, we are called to reflect God’s heart by giving freely, forgiving readily, and serving willingly. When our lives are measured by love, the impact reaches far beyond what we can see.
Call to Action
🦋Offer kindness to someone today without expecting anything in return.
🦋Extend mercy and patience in a situation where it would be easier to judge.
🦋Pray for the Holy Spirit to guide your responses to reflect God’s “Measure of love.
🦋Look for opportunities to give, time, encouragement, or resources, to bless others.
🦋Reflect on how generosity can become a daily spiritual discipline.
Pray
Gracious and generous God, thank You for the abundance of mercy and grace You pour into my life each day. Teach me to live with an open heart and an open hand, giving freely as You have given to me. Help me to “Measure” my words, actions, and attitudes with compassion, kindness, and generosity. Through the power of the Holy Spirit, guide me to extend mercy instead of judgment and love instead of indifference. May my life reflect the overflowing goodness of Christ so that others may experience Your grace through me. In Jesus’ name I pray. Amen.
