Word For Today – Breastplate
March 17, 2026

Scripture
“Therefore take up the whole armor of God, that you may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand firm. Stand therefore, having fastened on the belt of truth, and having put on the breastplate of righteousness, and, as shoes for your feet, having put on the readiness given by the gospel of peace.”  Ephesians 6:13–15 ESV

Devotion: Protected by Righteousness
Today, I am reflecting on the word “Breastplate” in relation to righteousness. I thank God for the protective covering found in Jesus Christ. In Christ, I am assured and secured—shielded from spiritual attacks. As we go about our daily pursuits, let us remember to put on the “Breastplate” or shield of righteousness by walking in obedience to God’s Word. Through prayer in Jesus’ name, we invite God to guard and guide our thoughts, words, and actions.  On this day, I know that Christ is with me in every direction I go; therefore, I am safely under God’s protection.

Reflection:
During this Lenten season, and on this St. Patrick’s Day, we can take inspiration from the life of St. Patrick, who courageously spread faith in Christ under the guidance of the Holy Spirit. May we, too, align our decisions, thoughts, and actions with biblical principles that lead us and others to know Christ more deeply. How can you intentionally “put on” your spiritual armor today? Are there areas of your life where you need to let Christ’s righteousness protect and strengthen you?

Call to Action
Begin your day with a prayer for spiritual protection.
Read Ephesians 6:10–18 and meditate on each piece of God’s armor.
Reflect on how righteousness guides your words and choices today.
Share encouragement or a verse about God’s protection with someone else.

Pray
Lord Jesus, thank You for being my breastplate of righteousness and my constant shield. Help me to walk in obedience and truth today. Guard my heart, mind, and actions from anything that would pull me away from You. Strengthen me by Your Spirit so that my life reflects Your love and righteousness to those around me. In Your holy name, I pray. Amen.
