Word For Today – Appointed

Scripture
“You did not choose me, but I chose you and appointed you that you should go and bear fruit and that your fruit should abide, so that whatever you ask the Father in my name, he may give it to you.”  John 15:16 ESV.

Devotion – Chosen, Called, and Appointed
Today, I reflect on the word “Appointed” and what it means to be chosen by God.  Jesus reminds us that our relationship with God begins with God’s initiative: “You did not choose me, but I chose you.” Before we could fully understand God’s purpose for our lives, God was already at work. Through Jesus Christ, God calls us, and through the power and guidance of the Holy Spirit, God equips us to fulfill that calling.  To be “Appointed” by God means that our lives have purpose. We have not simply been chosen to receive God’s blessings; we have been chosen to become a blessing. Jesus says that we have been appointed to “go and bear fruit.” Our faith is meant to move. Our calling is meant to produce something. Our relationship with Christ should become visible in the way we live, love, serve, forgive, encourage, and care for others. God has “Appointed” us with the authority to make disciples and the responsibility to reflect God’s character in the world. Wherever God places us—within our families, churches, communities, workplaces, or relationships, we have an opportunity to demonstrate the love of Jesus Christ.  And Jesus does not merely tell us to bear fruit; He calls us to bear fruit that lasts. God chose us. God called us.  God “Appointed” us. Walk confidently in the purpose God has given usSo today, may we walk confidently in the purpose God has given us. vealed through our daily acts of love, obedience, service, generosity, compassion, and Christian character.

Reflection
God did not choose us simply to occupy a place. God appointed us to make a difference in that place.  Through the power of the Holy Spirit, God will equip us to accomplish what God has called us to do.  Let us live this day remembering that we are chosen, called, and “Appointed” to make an eternal impact.  Where has God “Appointed” me to bear fruit today?  Am I measuring my purpose by recognition and results, or by faithfulness and obedience?  What lasting fruit might God produce through one simple act of love, service, encouragement, generosity, or faith today?

Gracious and loving God, thank You for the gift of this new day and for choosing me through Jesus Christ.
