Devotion – Light for the Next Step
Today, I reflect on the word “Light.” I thank God for the gift of a new day and celebrate that, in Jesus’ name and through the daily prompting of the Holy Spirit, God is my “Light.” God’s Word provides a path for each day and serves as a practical guide for daily living. Like a small oil lamp in ancient times, God’s Word may not illuminate the entire journey ahead, but it gives us enough “Light” to take the next faithful step. Sometimes we want God to show us the whole plan. We want to know what will happen tomorrow, next month, or even next year. We can move forward with confidence because the One who provides the “Light” also walks with us. God’s “Light” is reliable. God’s Word gives us wisdom, direction, and reassurance when the way before us is uncertain. Today, may we trust God for the “Light” we need, not for every step ahead, but for the next one.
Reflection
God often invites us to trust one step at a time. Where do you need God’s “Light” today? Instead of asking God to reveal the entire journey, consider the next faithful step God may already be illuminating through Scripture and the prompting of the Holy Spirit. What is one step you can take today because you trust the Light God has given you?

Pray
Gracious and loving God, thank You for the gift of this new day. Thank You for being my Light when the way ahead is uncertain. In Jesus’ name, help me trust Your Word as a lamp to my feet and a light to my path. Holy Spirit, guide my thoughts, decisions, words, and actions today. When I want to see the entire journey, give me faith to trust You for the next step. When uncertainty causes me to hesitate, remind me that I do not walk alone. Give me wisdom to recognize Your direction and courage to follow wherever You lead. May Your Light shine through me so that my life brings encouragement, hope, and love to others. I trust You to provide all the Light I need for today. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
