Word For Today – Afraid
Scripture
“When I am afraid, I put my trust in you. In God, whose word I praise, in God I trust; I shall not be afraid. What can flesh do to me?” Psalm 56:3–4 ESV
Devotion – When I Am Afraid, I Will Trust God
Today, I reflect on the word “Afraid.” Fear is a normal human response, but it does not have to control us. When fear rises, we can call on God in Jesus’ name and listen for the guidance of the Holy Spirit. Faith does not mean we never feel “Afraid” faith means choosing to trust God even while fear is present. Instead of allowing threats, uncertainty, or troubling thoughts to rule our hearts, we can praise God and stand on God’s promises. God’s presence reorients our hearts from fear toward faith, reminding us that we are never alone.
Reflection
Fear may speak loudly, but it does not have the final word. God invites us to acknowledge what frightens us and then deliberately place our trust in Him. When I am afraid, will I allow fear to direct my next step, or will I trust God to lead me forward?
Call to Action
☀️Name the fear. Honestly acknowledge what is making you “Afraid.”
☀️Choose trust. Pray, “When I am afraid, I put my trust in You.”
☀️Praise God. Replace fearful thoughts with praise and the promises of God’s Word.
☀️Listen for the Holy Spirit. Ask for wisdom and courage before responding.
☀️Move forward in faith. Take one faithful step today, trusting that God is with you.
Pray
Gracious God, thank You for being with me in every moment, including those moments when I am afraid. In the name of Jesus, I choose to place my trust in You. When fear fills my thoughts, remind me of Your promises. When uncertainty makes me hesitant, strengthen my faith. Holy Spirit, guide my thoughts, calm my heart, and direct my steps. Help me not to be controlled by fear, human threats, or circumstances beyond my control. Turn my attention toward Your presence and overcoming power. Teach me to praise You even when I cannot see what lies ahead. Today, I declare that fear will not have the final word. You are with me, You are faithful, and I will trust You. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
